I need to make this part. Three of them. I'm assuming the slug is 4130 and not mild steel. Have any of you tapped 4130 before. Curious how that went. I'm no stranger to threading but I've never tapped a 4130 slug before.

Are the strut barrel slugs on a J3 or Taylorcraft mild steel or 4130? Maybe I could just make these from mild steel and just weld it the 4130 tube.

My concern is chipping the threads when tapping 4130.
