Just completed the all the corner blocking for the 2 wings of my future airplane; 230 pieces! Yes; just the wings and ailerons. These were manufactured using a commercially available 'cove' molding (inverse quarter round). Each wing has fifty seven 5" pieces for the main spar; thirty 4.3" pieces for the aft spar (front face); sixteen 4.2" pieces for the aft spar (rear face), and twelve 3.8" pieces for each aileron. Total weight for the Aspen 3/4" X3/4" cove material was 5.37 pounds (85.92 ounces) for both wings. The length of the molding required was approx. 100 lineal feet @ 93 cents CDN per lineal foot. Aspen (poplar) specific gravity is 0.38 versus Sika spruce's 0.40
The stabilator, for which I am now building ribs, will use 40+ corner blocks and twelve 1/8" Baltic birch ribs attached to a 90" Douglas fir spar. Counter weight lead for balance will be bolted to aft face of the leading edge.
