Some gliders have struts ......looking at "micro-lift" and ultra-lite foot launched gliders and the speed they fly my back of the envelope drag calculations for the addition of struts at 30 mph thermal speed is less than a pound for stream-line tubing of 1" cross section. These are not contest machines and the addition of struts really makes the wing spar and wing much less weight. So the question I have is what am I missing or is it simply the culture demands (desires) cantilever wings.
