Playing around with a router to make aluminum ribs, from 6061T6 .020 sheet, I got a notion: Might I make all my constant chord wing ribs in a single pass?
Knowing that people often encountered challenges with multiple blanks welding together while being routed out I decided to experiment - I placed paper posterboard between the sheets of aluminum.
Since it was a test, I wanted to conserve material, so instead of a full blown rib I just cut the edge off a stack of small rectangles using the router.
It appears that the posterboard reduces the aluminum edges' tendency to weld to each other.
Since I have never heard of anyone trying this, or advocating it, I thought I should share my experience here.
When I make a full stack I will try to video the process and post it here in this thread.
I would be interested in the experience of others who try this. Let us know how it goes.
