Most of me is in IL but my hearts in Alaska
In my time, as a passenger in various helicopters, I have noticed that vertical takeoff and landing extremely rare.
I’m not exactly sure how to word this, but it seems like most pilots have preferred to make a very steep approach, and departure and the vertical portion of their landings and takeoffs has been at most a foot or two ?
True, vertical operations seem to be quite short and very rare.

So I am wondering what most of you would fine to be an acceptable takeoff, and landing distance for a helicopter or replacement?
After watching STOL competitions, where it seems like some of these planes are landing in the distance, it takes to park them, and it makes me curious
