Hi all, my name is Matt. I’m an Air Traffic Controller and Private Pilot living west of Toronto. I’ve been in the dreaming stage of a build for a few years and am ready to start moving into the planning stage. The most fun I’ve had flying has been in the 1946 Chief on floats that I owned with a few guys so I think I will try to replicate that with my build, with a few upgrades of course. Right now I’m thinking the following:

Just Aircraft Highlander
Oratex Covering
Basic VFR Panel
120hp Jabiru 3300
Zenair 1450 Amphibs

The area I live would make straight floats impractical, so I’m only considering something that will work with amphibs. I like the Highlander because it has good useful load and a large baggage area, and my budget would prevent building anything much bigger. This will be my first build, so any suggestions or advice are appreciated. My relevant experience is some woodworking and very limited metalworking. If anyone could point me towards recent info about building and maintaining similar equipment in this part of Canada, that would be great!

Thanks!
