Hi all! New member checking in. I'm a Private Pilot working for a large airplane company in the Pacific Northwest. I am also an A&P mechanic.
The forum caught my eye as I was doing some research for my "retirement airplane". I am still 8 years out, but I like to do my research and "get in front of the airplane" so to speak. I currently fly out of a Flight Club and try to fly at least twice a month (preferably more).
As of right now, I am leaning towards getting my hands on a Kolb Mark III Twinstar, or possibly building one. As of right now, I really need an airplane that I will be able to keep in a garage and/or trailer. I've left where we retire up to my girlfriend. While I would love to get a place on a runway somewhere, she has a strong love for water and boating and wants to retire on or near a lake somewhere, so I have to be versatile to make my dreams happen. The only thing we absolutely agree on is that when the cold, white crap starts coming out of the sky, we will travel south until it gets warm again!
So as of right now, it's either the Kolb, or go the PPG route which is also an option, but truth be known I'd prefer the Kolb.
Maybe she will surprise me and find a place with a runway and water. That definitely opens up more options for me. I could also go the amphib route with the Kolb and have the best of both worlds. Only time will tell, but for right now, let the research continue!
