I have been told that if slats were added to a wing, the correct way is to reduce the wings chord so that when the slat is extended you have a wing with the original chord length. I would like to hear opinions on that.
Also, what would happen if slats were added to an existing wing? It would seem that with the slat retracted (floating slats) that the wing would operate near its original design intent. When landing, the additional lift and larger wing area over a stock wing would seem to be even better than reducing the wings chord. I don't really know the answer, just guessing.
