Such a complex system with soooooo many variables. Add in the need to make a PSRU light-weight and it is little wonder how few PSRUs survive in the long run.
On a related note: long drive-shafts, I wonder how Bell was able to build so many thousand P-39 Airacobras and P-63 King Cobras in an era when most other attempts T long drive shafts failed.
On another related note,I get the impression that helicopters only became practical with the introduction of smooth-turning turbines during the 1950s.
What are your thoughts?
