An interesting little 2-stroke engine that would look great on the front of a small biplane:

The fuel consumption is not all that bad for a 1930s two-stroke; at cruising power the BSFC works out to 0.47 lbs/hr/hp of gas (sorry petrol) or 0.49 including oil.
Considering the simplicity and the availability of of modern machinery, this would not be a terribly expensive engine to produce and some modern improvements in ignition etc would make this a gem of a little engine.
