From 2002 through 2008, I wrote 31 articles for the EAA's Sport Aviation magazine on various aspects of airplane design. I always wanted to use those articles as a starting point for a book on light airplane design. Now that I'm retired from Cessna, I have more time and the freedom to devote to that effort. The book will be focused on the design of propeller airplanes only, because that is where my 25 years of experience doing this kind of work lies. Plus, that's the kind of airplanes that I'm interested in! I was very fortunate to do this for a living, and this book is intended to be my attempt at providing the principles for light airplane design based on lessons learned from actually doing it, from preliminary design though flight test.
To that end, I am in the process of reviewing my light airplane database in order to update the empirical trends as necessary. I was wondering if those in the HBA community would be willing to contribute this kind of information for expanding my database beyond what I already have. The categories of airplanes that I am seeking information includes:
