I know its fairly common to use structural stainless rivets (cherry Q and Max) and steel brackets on aluminum tube aircraft. I am getting ready to do a mod that involves joining two pieces of 6061 by inserting and riveting a single piece of 4130 into the two pieces of 6061, and then encasing it in a fairly substantial steel gusset. The gentleman who is very kindly guiding me through this has done this mod before on several airplanes and this is how he did it, it is been several years and it is working fine. Is this kosher long term?
