Here's some really great video of a bird coming in for a landing, at 1000 frame per second. Watch carefully for all the subtleties of control at play here - wing warping, span and sweep changes, camber changes, weight shift, and then extension of the tail as a drag-brake and flap, with accompanying forward shift of the wings to maintain trim.

This is your challenge. Not at all insurmountable, but this is what's going to be necessary to achieve a practical ornithopter. This level of structural and aerodynamic control.
