Well I have been into building and flying r/c airplanes for a while and I've decided to move up to the real deal. I designed an all wood airplane, high wing, 26ft w/s, 155 sq. feet of wing area, with a dry weight of roughly 6-700 pounds. Now I'm looking into a cheap way to power it, I'm on a pretty tight budget, so I've been trying to find an cheap alternitave to the expensive airplane motors. I'm not sure about what HP i would need, but the airplane will have a thick flat bottomed airfoil, and decent wing loading, so i was thinking some where in the 60-100 hp (and i know its kind of a big range so any oppinions would be appriciated.) range would be plenty. ( I could be wrong, just the estimate I came up with looking at kits that were in the size/weight range). I'm trying to make it take off and land in as short of area as possible, so weight is fairly important. Any input would be appriciated.
