Guys, what's the standard practice in securing an assembly like this rudder pedal. Attached are two photos, one of the plans and the other my assembly.

I'm assuming I can use a bolt or cotter pin right? A cotter pin would be lighter and if I did go that direction where can I find information about choosing the pin diameter and hole size?
