Amateur-built ultralight...Part 103 or E-AB?

There are number of single-seat aircraft that appeal to me that can be Part 103 ultralights if built with care and modestly powered, or experimental amateur-built aircraft if you want a little more power, range, and comfort. TEAM MiniMax, Legal Eagle, Skylite would be a few examples. My personal thought is that I'd probably want an N-number so I can log the hours, but maybe I'm overlooking something. Does anyone have experience operating ultralight-type aircraft in the USA under both Part 103 and with an N-number and can speak to the pros and cons of each option? Cheers, Matthew
