The gen 2 Jab 3300 in my 2007 Lightning is at 700 hours and by the end of this summer may be nearing 900 hours. The engine has a mandatory top overhaul at 1000 hours which involves pretty much everything on the engine except splitting the case. Now having said that and my engine being a gen 2 engine, the case studs are known to be too weak and in Australia and NZ they have mandatory groundings until the cases have been modified to take the larger studs.

Is there anyone out there that has gone through this process and is willing to reveal any details ? I did get a quote from the Jabiru US distributor in Shelbyville, TN and their quote was for $4750.57 for parts only (If I could get the engine rebuilt by a local A&P where I am) or approximately $7500 if I bring the airplane to Shelbyville and have them rebuild it in-house. Neither of the quotes included any work on the case to replace the known - too - small case studs.
