Why aren't one-piece Grove style landing gear made out of spring steel? I know flat stock spring steel was/is used on some designs like C-150 and RV-12 but those are two-piece. Is the fabrication process cost prohibitive or is it not a good material for other reasons? And why do the designs that do use spring steel opt to use separate legs with elaborate mounting hardware as opposed to just carrying the material through the center section like the Grove aluminum gear used on many designs?
