I need to attach a rail to a carbon plate. The carbon plate has a thickness of 2.5mm (0.098 inches). The rear side of the plate is not accessible. There are mainly shear loads with practicly no pulling loads on the joints.
I can't use threade bolts to attach the rail because I can't access the rear side. Cherry rivets would be the easiest and logical solution. But I would like to be able to remove the rail without drilling out the rivets. How's the idea of cutting a thread into the rather thick carbon plate and screw the rail directly onto the plate? Is that an acceptable way?
