I have an O-320 lycoming that is leaking oil where the case half’s come together. The engine had a sealant on it at the seams when I bought it, however I chipped it off to see why it was there. After run up I observed what appears to be 5 very tiny pinholes that a small amount of oil residue seeps. The pinholes are on the top of the case and are more of a weep than a leak where the case half’s come together.
I have two questions. What would cause this phenomenon?
Is there a sealant/bonding-agent that can be successfully used where the halves come together?
