Thread is about exactly what the title suggests: what is and how is it determined that the wholesale price of an aircraft engine is.?

From what I have seen in the past, a retail buyer will be quoted "$xx" price from a reseller/distributor/airframe manufacturer, but that price will suppose a core being presented. I have been told, but as yet unable to verify that the distributor is likely to pay that exchange price from the engine manufacturer, less the need to present a core to get that discount.

How close am I getting to reality?
