Whiffle tree question

I'd like to set up a Whiffle tree but I'm having a hard time visualizing just how to do it. My problem is that the structure I'd like to test isn't flat and I'd like all of the final loads to be normal to the surface - as they will be in the real world.
The picture below is kind of the opposite of what I'd like to set up. In other words start with the curved wing and move the tree to the bottom side.

I could set the whole thing up using springs with a known constant attached to some threaded rods and run the whole thing with an Arduino. I don't expect there to be much deflection before failure so the rods could be simply attached to a ridged bar at the appropriate angles - but that is more fiddling than I really have time for.

I'm pondering adding lateral links (red) that can be adjusted as the test progresses to keep the final links normal to the surface. Scale of the test is around 5 feet and 400 pounds ultimate

Second question:
This setup just doesn't look right?!?
