There is one thing for sure, the US had a much better training structure than any other country during WW2. Japan and Germany pretty much had one generation of pilots. Attrition was big. Anything more than primary training was baptism by fire; WW1 style. The US had a new full generation every year of the war. Steps of airplanes for each type so talent could be developed, not rely on natural talent to come to the top.

Too bad a BT-13 or a T-28 miss on each end.
