Here's the plan. I'll post a new thread towards the end of each month. Members then make a post giving a quick run-down on what they were able to accomplish that month. It will be open until the next month's thread is posted. Your post can be as quick or as detailed as you want it to be. If you have a couple of pictures, that would be even better. The more that participate the better. DO NOT BE SHY! We want to hear from you!

What qualifies to be posted? Building, buying, flying, training, dreaming, planning, etc. Anything that get's you closer to whatever aviation goal you have set for yourself.

Once the next month's thread is opened I'll archive the old thread so we can refer back to it with fondness for years to come....

Working out my tailplane mounting details on the single seater, but not much progress. Paying off my Aeronca L3 and going over all the CFI-SP material I need to remember for the checkride in a couple of months or so. There, I said it; now I'm committed...

I bought 3 yards of cheap fiberglass for a model/RC. Made paper model for the first time. Drew out tentative fuselage with unlikely but elegant gear arrangement, and new tip connection. Realized I'm not qualified to try unusual thin membrane wing structure, drew up more conventional approach.

Finally understood inherent downsides, but value it for uniqueness. Began looking for a less challenging design. Still editing mini-imp configuration with direct drive engine. Visiting fiberglass construction techniques for high aspect ratio motor gliders.

Remembering I'm too poor to fly.

It's been a good month....Can I borrow an engine next month?

Love,

I’ve just finished my VFR night flight qualification and will begin this next weekend the construction of some composite parts for an off road competition car for a friend.

Working on the final stages of getting the PortableFuelSystem approved for use at Ryan Airfield (down by Tucson), and starting the planning stages of our "grand tour" of the airshow circuit next year to show off our up and coming Alcohol Separator.

Oh yea, had 2 magazines write articles this month about our alcohol separator...maybe you caught it in Aviation Consumer and/or Experimental Helo magazines?

I started planning our family trip to Sun N Fun. Since that week is also our daughter's 10th birthday and our 17th wedding anniversary, we have to throw in a side trip to a hang gliding place (all our girl wants for her birthday is a hang glider ride!) and I need to plan something extra to celebrate 17 years with my awesome husband :).

Talked to FAA about PMA process for Cub tailfeathers. Read a bunch of FAA regs. Flew an RV-7. Overflew Dad and Moms house at 140 knots [3200 ft] while trying to see it. Realized mistake, turned back in time to see Dads white Colbalt pulling out of the drive. Spent some hours looking at a Bearhawk very close to completion.[ Engine hung but not covered.] Took credit for selling a set of plans for a Bearhawk to Voyeurger. Hoped his wife was not to mad. Hoped my wife will not be to mad. Welded a test coupon of 4130 .028 and crushed it in a press. I have a thing for destructive testing. It tells the tale. Gave a TIG lesson to the guy building the Bearhawk. He was already a good gas welder so we started out on alum. He then proceeded to finish his heater box for the Bearhawk. You can see his plane at http://jaredyates.com. Looking forward to SUN N FUN.

Re: January 2011 - Tell us what you've done this month!

I've been working on the condition inspection on my RV-6. I have some items that needed attention. The engine was getting hard to start when cold. The points in the left mag were bad. I installed new points and condenser, then tested it. It fired right up. Now some work on the carburetor and the airbox should about finish up the engine. I want to build new fiberglass gear leg fairings, but that will wait for a warmer time of year. I'm finding that parts suppliers are keeping inventories low these days. I'm waiting longer than ever for parts.

Finished reading "Stick And Rudder" and started reading "Flying A Taildragger". Moved rudder pedals (or was that last month?). Started the 277, now to go through the published 'Break in' procedures. Moved the throttle, but it's not gonna work because the mount is weak and my knee hits it. I'll be moving it again this weekend. Oh... and I joined EAA! Member # 1048923. Next month... hopefully... dual time and taxi tests.

Ugh... it seems like I've spent the whole month shoveling snow... and waiting for engine parts after a near forced landing on New Year's day. Not a very airplane oriented month. If I want to even see my plane, it's gonna take snowshoes to get in...

A conclusion is the place where you get tired of thinking.

Re: January 2011 - Tell us what you've done this month!

I've secured space to build the working table for airframe and wing construction, today or tomorrow I shall purchase a saw and start cutting the pile of lumber that I purchased almost a year ago into the sizes required.

Now finally I'll get over the joke that I tell people I'm going to show them the aircraft I'm building and it's a pile of lumber :)
