So does the engine turn the opposite direction of the motor, That would turn up the rpms past the stators without turning up the rpm of the propeller?

Sorry - I don´t know details of that type of propulsion.
My friend told me about this idea and I just found photos and basic description on Internet. Seems that wil be used on Merlin (small metal UL one seater produced 100 km from my home) so I can try to ask for more info.

One circuit with elecric Phoenix.
During traning day would be possible to make 10 circuits like this, than debriefing (+battery recharge) and another 10 circuits etc....

Old footage but still nice... I love ridge soaring with Phoenix in France :)

=active/passive motor=only gliderlike noise !?

-take off/landing flaps "not in work"?
Phoenix has flaperons :)
I use:
10° setting for landing
5° for takeoff
0° till speed 160 km/h and
-4° for cruise (typically between 180-220 km/h)

I should record noise from cockpit.
Outside recording is too much affected by air flow arround GoPro.

So this lends itself to the glider concept?

Rutan Seagull is glider and had two additional motors in design (not in build) they were electric.

Hello!
Rutan Skigull has glider wing so makes sense to use also electric propulsion. However even Rutan started with IC engine.
Equator is really big amphibian airplane (I was looking at it on AERO) so I beleive it need much more energy to fly in compare with Skigull. Will be interesting to watch this project to see performance with actual generation of batteries. I know they want to use IC engine as generator, however is a question what efficiency they will achieve. It is not easy to make good electric airplane. To make good electric amphibian airplane is a real challenge :)
