Hi all, first post on here. An old Dutch friend over here in France has built two or three ultralights in recent years none of which unfortunately have proven successful but he still lives to tell the tale ;)

Each time he's said 'Never again' as he did after his last project a few months ago but now he's bored and restless with a Polini 28hp motor burning a hole in his workshop and he's talking about looking for a new one. His main problem has been that he's tried to do his own designs, which have ended up being a bit wacky (one had two motors) or he's taken someone else's design eg for a glider and then tried to modify it, usually too much, to take an engine etc. But anyway, he's ended up with aircraft that were too unstable, too flimsy, too uncontrollable, whatever.

He's a sound craftsman and used to working with aluminium, wood, fabric, foam and his last project was made largely from carbon fibre tube, although the rest of us thought that his wrapped joints were a bit dodgy so it might be a good idea to steer away from that.

My question is this. Can anyone provide links to some good plans of proven designs that can use his old engine and will be sure to fly at the end of things? Free would be nice but I'm sure that he'd be prepared to pay a modest price for ones that are a really attractive proposition.

We're getting to ages now when this might be his last opportunity so I'd like to surprise him by putting something in front of his nose that will work rather than end up once again as scrap.

Thanks for any help.
