I have pulled off the vacuum pump on my Maule's O-300 since the mounting bracket was cracking and looks like it was welded in the past. Don't want that ending up in my prop. It's front mounted as this early O-300 has no drive pad on the rear for such new-fangled gadgets.

I have installed a fine, big and manly venturi tube on the port side and my plan was to simply route the air line to the existing regulator. Which has a 5/8" ID tube inlet (well, outlet strictly speaking since air is getting sucked thorugh it). The Venturi uses a 1/4" ID tube and never the twain shall meet in an agreeable manner. Not being much of instrument or avionics guy, is it acceptable to cobble up some kind of reducer or would a sudden change in diameter produce some undesirable effects?
