Is it typically the case for open sections (angle zstringer etc)at ultimate load (say in bending) the compression allowable is at best the yield stress (lower if crippling failurure is an issue) in the case of aluminium structures? In other words, the ultimate compression stress is not used at all and in fact is set arbitrarily as the tension ultimate stress.

Offcourse in the case of tension the ultimate load will be based on the ultimate stress and the limit load based on the yeild stress.
Thanks!
