I was looking at solid state AI's for an acro plane, but they cost a pretty penny, I then came across this solid state T&B which could be turned off for funky manoeuvres...or does it even need to be turned off being solid state?

The idea of the T&B was to at least have something in the panel for a u-turn in case of inadvertant entry into weather.
