All:

We are looking to install tungsten elevator counter weight on our internal elevator tabs. Will require less weight than lead and would like to rivet and bond the strips to the CF internal elevator tab.

We have found some NA sources of tungsten strip but it is very expensive and not optimally shaped for this application (most optimal shape would be a wedge to conform to clearance fit within the horizontal). The least expensive source we have found so far is tungsten bucking bars used for rivet setting. These bucking bars would have to be machined into strips but we do not have the machining capability to cut tungsten.

Our questions:

Is anyone aware of a good source for tungsten strips that won't break the bank? Roughly 1/2" by perhaps 6" length would be useful.

If we elect to purchase bucking bars can they reasonably be cut into shapes by a machine shop? We know that EDM is a good method of cutting tungsten into shapes but do not have any idea of what it would cost.

Thanks for any ideas you might be able to share.

Bob
