does anyone out there have any information on the safety record of trikes compared to fixed wing ultralights. i have been told that they are dangerous but i dont know for sure

Neither is inherently more dangerous than the other. The vast majority of aircraft crashes are due to poor decision making. Skipping the checklist for example and taking off from a cliff without your harness clipped in. Trying to fly an unfamiliar craft without instruction. Accidents that begin with the pilot telling someone "watch this". That sort of thing.
Flown well and within their design limits neither sort of Trike (solid wing or Powered Chute) is any more or less dangerous than any other sort of flying machine.

Funny you should say that... did you know that the last 4 words usually heard just before most major accidents (and hillbilly fatalities) are "hey y'all watch this!"

no safer than the pilot flying in other word's, right?
somthing to think about before you leave the ground.
