When I was a kid we called a five dollar bill a fin... Back on topic, one of the things over the past few years that has come to my attention is the fin on the tail of an airplane and how it (can) aid in stabilization... this first came to my attention as a change to the Flying Flea rudder and how a rudder with a fin is better than the fin-less version... Also in recently getting the FRED plans there is a recommended fin upgrade to the original non fin... That was one of the things I didn't quite care for on the Volksplane. But to be clear, I am not an engineer and base these opinions of things I have been told or have noticed in my search for the perfect homebuilt. I point this out mostly for those who are considering building to do some research on the designs you like, and be comfortable with it.
