Thunder over Louisville is an all day airshow followed by the largest fireworks show in North America (it's what Armed Forces Television shows on 4th of July). It would have been today, but, like any recent gathering of hundreds of thousands of people, it got cancelled because of Covid-19.
So myself and two other pilot friends took 3 Citabrias and did a formation flight over the city and down the river. No aerobatics, not very close (it's only the 3rd or 4th time any of us have done formation flight), and a really poor substitute for an actual air show, but it's not like there were better options for entertainment. Posted about it beforehand on Facebook, had quite a few people interested, and more that saw us. Probably could've been on the news if we'd called it in, it's not like anything else is happening in town.
Since no one else can claim it, I'm now referring to myself as the 2020 Thunder over Louisville lead pilot.
If there's a cancelled airshow near you, do a formation flight, people are bored and will probably like it, and then you too can make dubious claims about your airshow experience.
