I saw an ad for a fairly obscure Zenair project. I checked with Zenair, and they confirm it was a design they sold plans for back in the day but has not been supported for maaany years. The project is far away, but the pics look pretty good, the completion % looks fairly high, and for the price, it's worth it for the engine. That said, has anyone completed someone's orphan project and gotten an airworthiness certificate? With no support from the factory, I don't know the best way to figure out a POH. If I know the HP, empty weight, and wing area, I should be able to calculate all the V speeds, right? It's very roughly similar to a current Zenith design, so the numbers from that should get me in the ballpark on performance expectations wouldn't you think? Or should I just let some local take it off the seller's hands and forget about it?
