Letting my mind wander the other day, I wondered what it would be like if an aircraft had movable slats instead of flaps.
Would the pitch change the same as when deploying flaps?
Would the mechanical advantage / force required to deploy be much greater than with flaps?
Would slow flight be different?
Would approaches feel different?
Assuming they drooped as well as extended when deployed, would they cause a pitch-down moment if deployed while the relative wind remained parallel with the main portion of the wing?
If the above is true, but all other areas showed superior performance to flaps, would an AOA interlock be appropriate?
