Hi All,
I was just thinking it might be useful to start a little threat on various designs that have been made in X-Plane by members .. so if somebody has a concept in mind he could dig here whether somebody else had similar thoughts before .. and maybe use the one or other model as a basis for further analysis / discussion / design ..
my 2 Cent:
This was a very conventional design I used to analyze the impact on smoothing wing & tail edges with larger profile sections .. 4 pax .. 200-300hp .. 130-160 kts .. retractable gear ..
this is a Canard Jet .. as stated in another threat I made during that Ecplise hype .. same fans like the Eclipse, more payload, higher speed, better range, better take off / landing performance .. at least in my theoretical dreams .. anyway I managed to get it 100% stall & spin safe .. also it was the first time to dig into jet design .. was a quite interesting project .. suddenly you think about inlet heating, blead air and all that kind of stuff .. X-plane always let my engines starve above 24.000 ft due to intake icing ..
the next one was made to evaluate a tail boom design .. nice concept .. fast & stable .. 4 seat, 200-300hp,
now comes a little bit of a brain f*ck .. just an experiment .. looks like it falls into the times when the Nemesis NXT first appeared .. I just tried what happens if you combine a O540 / 350hp engine with a fuselage and very small flat plate wings .. no camber, no profile - nothing .. just flat .. it flies terrible .. if you get it off the ground without prop strike at all .. interesting to see how characteristics change (speed increases) if you increase profile camber & wing quality .. landing almost is impossible due to limited visibility .. but has a nice macho look ??
the last one for today does not really fall into the homebuilder's domain .. I was sitting in my office on a quiet day asking myself why there are no super tanker planes like we have them on the sea .. flying around slowly carrying a huge masses .. so this is the absolute giga wake turbulence mega lifter .. the question was - will 8 fully loaded large Euro Containers (in total 240 tons payload, 40 Meters long) be lifted by 4 Trend 900 (A380) turbofans .. unbelievable even 2 would do it .. do give you an idea of the scale .. the fan diameter in the model is the same like on an A380 .. so you get an understanding how huge it is .. with 4 fans and those wings it even lifts the 250 tons in 1500 Meters of runway .. but it is so slow that the fans never get into a economic speed configuration .. just playing around ..
