Been searching for information / comparison between carbon fibre and birch ply.

As using ply on a large area means lots of scarf joints especially when the grain is required at 45 degrees I wondered if a carbon sheet could be used in its place.

The carbon sheets can be made simply using resin infusion on a flat glass plate to the required shape and size.

This begs several questions

Is it just heavier so a none starter?

To replicate at least the performance of a given thickness of ply 1mm - 1.5mm - 2mm - 2.5mm - 3mm what layups would be needed ?
