I got to take a ride in a L-5 today. What a beefy confidence inspiring design! The owners were very kind, and indulged my many questions. I was surprised to learn that the wing has zero internal wire bracing, only plywood on the bottom of the wing, and fabric on the top. Seems like wood wings could be a lot easier to build if all the diagonals and bits can be omitted and replaced with a plywood.
