lots of DC-3's still dragging happy skydivers to altitude as well! Way fun to run down the isle, out that little door and then fall on your back watching the big bird pull away..
Yes, DC-3s were fun jump planes. I did my 500th tandem from Jan's DC-3. We sat on a sofa while climbing to altitude, then walked - like gentlemen - to the large cargo door.
Sadly, radial engines faded from the skydiving scene during the 1990s. Partly because they wore out, partly because few skydiving operations were devoted to maintenance, but mainly because turboprops prove more reliable and quicker to altitude.
