Pops has floated the specific question of how we might safety wire, or otherwise make the gland nut on a flywheel drive VDub failsafe.

What about the rest of the case nuts & plugs?

Hoover (the perfectionist) seems to suggest that every case nut should be safety wired, every plug be aluminum, and every plug have a top groove, into which a bit of case material should be swaged (Pops-I had to look that one up, too).

Seems extreme. Should I toss all my nylocks?

Is there consensus, or at least general agreement among the aero VW community about which which nuts (apart from the special case of gland nut on a flywheel drive) need a better locking system? Are wave washers an appropriate compromise?

Thanks
Mike
