Rod end bearing question.

Is there guidance regarding the use of rod end bearings? Specifically how many threads deep should the rod end bearing be screwed into a pushrod? Is the a minimum spec or maximum spec? I am in the middle of rigging control surface deflections and was just wondering. Thanks in advance.
