Hello,

My BD-4C plans call for bonding the aft fuselage skin to the frame pieces using 3M cement and throwing one or two rivets into each of the frame pieces, as desired, as a backup. Unfortunately, if built to plans you cannot access the aft fuselage to inspect or repair/replace any control or avionics items. The skin is aerodynamic only, not structural.

I'd like to install one 0.016" side skin (using dimpled screw holes) screwed on into nutplates using 3/16" countersunk (in the 0.063" frame) machine screws. This would allow me to remove one of the aft sides over an eight foot length giving lots of access to the aft section.

I've had no luck with site searches, is there a reference for how many screws per foot, or some other metric, that would guide me on what spacing I would need to use for the screws to keep the skin firmly attached?

Thanks very much,

Todd
