Ok, everybody has seen the oil cooler mounted on the rear baffle of a Lycoming 4 banger; it's a very common installation. What you do not often see is hard lines (instead of hose) for the fluid connection. From an engineering perspective, there is no reason NOT to use hard lines here... but the execution will be a pain. I have to rebuild the rear baffle/cooler mount on an RV-8 anyway, so I think I'm going to plumb it with -10 stainless tube instead of hose.
Has anyone ever seen this done (or more importantly, have they seen it fail)?
