There are a couple discussions going on these topics, as well as Steen Labs claim of "modern vacuum methods" of pressing spars and making them out of thin vertically laminated plies.

Here is how Fairchild did it in 1945.
Some of the processes were developed from technology they bought from Lockheed when Lockheed, who had been doing it since the 20's, got out of wood construction.

Skip past the C-82 intro, there is a fair amount of (superficially described but well illustrated) wood processing in the middle parts, then on to Ranger engines.

Wood is from about 4:25 through 10:xy
