Hello,

When I am doing a search for anything on the site, I am getting the no results found response.
I am able to leave the site and open a google search for the same term, including homebuiltairplanes in the search window with my search term, and google will find it.

Any thoughts? Am i doing something wrong?

Thanks

I don't know if we are doing something wrong, but (FWIW) it happens to me, too. Sometimes I'll get results if the search is very narrow (e.g. I know the post author and I get a few search words right), but often I get no results if I use the HBA search function.

This has been discussed before. It has something to do with archived older threads, IIRC. Or maybe the change to the new forum software?

No, you are not doing anything wrong. But I don't recall what the solution is.

Only thing that shows up is this thread. Ok, so site search engine not very good. Stick with google. Got it. Thanks
That is what we did with the old software. It used Google for the search engine, but when admin starting blocking search engines even that went away.

What we have now is somewhere between useless, that we did have at one time, and really good which we also had at one time.

I have another issue with the site. When stopping by and lurking my desk top is bombarded with adds and when logged in to Forum when replying to a thread the adds are still there and when writing it will jump from the thread and go to new advertisement and I must reset location to were I was writing and that is very annoying. It does make it difficult to post on my project log.

There's definitely something wrong with the search function, but it's a relatively recent phenomenon - I've used search after the switch to Xenfro and it was working fine for me, but I checked today and I'm seeing the same behavior as the rest of you. I'll let admin know.

HBA members can disable ads on the site. Here's how: https://www.homebuiltairplanes.com/forums/threads/how-to-disable-ads.31340/

It only works when you're logged in, so if you're looking at the site without explicitly being logged in as "you", then the site thinks you're a non-member and will serve ads.

Thank you Topaz. Great help
Happy to do so. Are we not getting the "you can disable ads" message out enough to our members? I mean, the ads are helping support the hosting of the site, etc., but obviously if they're bothering people we want to make sure you know you have the option to disable them. Suggestions?

Is there a way we can support the site by having HBA send the ads to other people? I have a whole bunch of email addresses I can forward to HBA admin--in the holiday spirit of giving.

FWIW Search options change depending on where your at (in a forum, a thread or just the main page). I've left the "Search this thread only" or the "Search this forum only" box checked without noticing and didn't get any results, I wish that check box was off by default.

Also FWIW I can search just fine when I'm offline, maybe it has something to do with the browser or browser settings?

Topaz: I believe this thread it self will help many members learn the options available especially members that was use to the older format. On the subject of search engine I personally go to google image and pull needed item to confirm that is indeed what I'm searching for then follow links.

Thanks for the information on these two issues. I will be getting the developer to check these issues out and correct.

I have received word that the issues are fixed and should not happen again.

Awesome, but only partially. A search for a keyword only, does work. But a search for keyword "flaps" by my member name "Topaz" returned "no results," yet I'm quite sure I've used that word at least several hundred times.

I think they need to do a little deeper dive into the problem.
