Hi forum tech folks, I don’t know if I’m the only one but on this website and this website only I’m getting an automatic redirect after about ten seconds to a site where I can claim the new phone I just won. Obviously I’m not falling for it but I wanted to bring to your attention that it’s making the forum unusable.

The only way I could post was to copy and paste this text in during the tiny window that I could. I’m just going to post it wherever I can (not enough time to get picky) and report it so it gets to the right person’s attention.

Turn off the adverts in preferences, once the offending one has been removed in a day or two. I had a problem with adverts making the site unsable a while back. Works great without any adverts now.

What system are you on? I see a lot of that on mobile platforms, especially if you’ve found your way to the site via certain apps or search engines.

    +1 on the mobile platforms.

you have to go and opt out of advertising everywhere you can. Delete all your seldom or unused apps. I did that on my phone and the problem went away.

Never had the problem on my laptop, though.

This isn't advertising. It takes over the window for HBA only.
    About 6 times today.
I will try deleting history now.

I think clearing history is working. Do need to log back on again.

Have had this problem on an iPad. Tried researching it and couldn’t find a definitive answer. I “think” web sites allow it because they get $$ from it.
I’ve tried clearing cookies and browsing history, switching to a browser that doesn’t track, even using a VPN. No reliable solution.

There is a 100% reliable solution. Although you will not have the absolute latest garbage....I meant information.

That is to trash all your computers and e-devices, go the library, and look at real actual paper books.:D

Yes there is, block all ads.
Unfortunately, advert providers don't properly vet the ads that they provide. I fail to understand why. Each rogue advert that trashes a website means 10s or 100s of thousands more people blocking ads. Maybe it's stealth promotion of ad blockers ;)

Please go to User Control Panel. (via little man icon in upper right). Click on it and choose Preferences. At the bottom of that page you can turn off the ads.

Well it’s sort of solved. I did all the steps and suggestions above but no joy, then this morning my iPad crashed and I’m not convinced it’s recoverable.

So far so good on my phone.

Apple used to brag that their computers were virus-proof, but the simple fact of the matter was that Apple didn’t have a big enough section of the market to tempt virus writers. Now with their dominance in the phone and tablet market, they are a much juicier target for malware creators.

I just found this, and I thought it might be pertinent to some folks here.

Google uncovers mother of all iPhone hacks

Analogous to how an easyDNS customer who recently called me “a champion turdweasel” on Twitter later conceded “sometimes he’s decent”; the news out of Google isn’t always bad. Google’s Threat Analysis Group (TAG) uncovered an unprecedented malware campaign being directed against iPhones which has been going on for two years and infected thousands of phones simply by having the users visit an infected web page. Google passed their findings onto Apple who fixed the issues in Feb 2019. Make sure you update your iOS if you haven’t since then.

I heard about this problem. Unless you are a Muslim living in China visiting Muslim web sites, don't worry about it. Those are the only phones affected.

Moderator Note: Let's please stay on-topic here, and not veer off into general computer/phone malware discussions. If you're having a particular problem with the new HBA platform, this thread is the place for that. For general malware discussions, no. Thanks.
