Hi guys.

I've been on this forum for a couple of years now and so far not even started building. I've learnt loads, and since i joined i quit my job and embarked on a BEng Hons in Aero engineering, so i have the people of this forum to thank in part for that.
Now i want to fly, this is my ambition. I couldnt become a pilot for 2 reasons: 1: i dont have £100k for a self sponsored ATPL, and 2: cant join the RAF because i wear glasses. This put me in a bit of a depression mode, gave up on life and got a job as a graphic designer. I done quite well, got bored, and am now at uni.

At the moment i'm learning to fly for fun, fixed wing microlights. Similar to LSA category but a UK version.

Anyway, i've been dreaming too much about cool concepts and ideas which may or may not work, but made no progress towards proving or disproving any of them. So i've changed my goal...

My goal is to have my own microlight aircraft and a licence to fly it within 2 years.

So heres how i'm going to do it, i'm going to stop dreaming about 200mph super duper composite craft with magic flaps and anorexic carburettors, and start building a plane with enough performance for fun, as my first plane. 'Enough' performance for me means anything that gets off the ground.

So i've downloaded a set of plans for a minimax 1700R himax and will have sent them to be printed full size locally.

It may not be the fastest or most exciting aircraft in the world, but i'll have a blast building and flying it.

My conceptual ideas are best left for my dissertation, and i'm only 23 so theres plenty of time left to build a super duper high performance craft when i know what i'm doing and how to fly it.

Plus, i've always liked building in wood. (To fund uni etc, i currently work as a joiner)

Looking forward to thoughts on this, a build thread will be posted shortly when i get started. :)
