Occasionally I look on Ebay, searching "Ultralight Aircraft" to see what people are trying to sell. Currently there are ads for this new plane from Southern Aviation. It's an interesting design, with a pedestal mounted pusher engine. They claim it's a legal U/L. Well, maybe with a smaller, lighter engine. And the wing loading seems way too high to really pass the stall speed limit. Anyway, I wish the company success. And I thought I'd mention it here in case y'all hadn't noticed it. NOVA-1 Aircraft
SOUTHERN AVIATION is now manufacturing the NOVA-1 aircraft that is a PART 103 ultralight. This means you will not need a pilot's license to fly the NOVA-1 aircraft. The NOVA-1 weighs 253 pounds with a 447 ROTAX she has a stall speed of 25 mph a cruise speed of 63 miles an hour. The NOVA-1 aircraft is built using S glass, aluminum, and steel. All of her fiberglass parts are vacuum bagged and oven cured, all of her steel parts are tig welded.

The NOVA-1 aircraft is the design of Melvin Wotring; he also designed the Warp-1A (LSA) that we will be manufacturing later on this year. Melvin is well known in the aviation field for his work on gyro copters, we're working very closely with Melvin on the Nova-1 aircraft to insure that our customers will receive the highest quality and safest design possible at a reasonable price. Aviation costs have gotten out of hand for the majority of pilots and we are going back to the basics in order to make it fun again for all to fly. The prices of $6995 US is below our manufacturing cost and is designed to attract those that will help us launch this aircraft to the global market by flying them in their region. We will only have 24 at this price shipping 4 per month for the first 6 months and then our pricing will be adjusted to insure proper operating capital to insure a quality product and service to our customers.
