I just joined HomeBuiltAirplanes.com and I hope everyone will understand if I'm possibly posting to the wrong forum section.

In any case, I've been flying since 1968 when taking my first lesson and am in financial circumstances now such that anything like a two or four seat production plane is absolutely out of the question. In order to have something to get my girlfriend and I back into the air I'm thinking of what may be best termed a two seat "fat" ultralight. This design, whatever it turns out to be, will likely be licensed as an ELSA and thus not subject to the ultralight weight limit.

I'm going to have to scratch build the whole thing from plans and other than a two place WeedHopper I don't have a clue about and other similar designs that may be available "plans only". By the same token, I don't know much at all about suitable engines and reduction gears other than Rotax and Cuyuna. Rotax is definitely way too expensive for a new setup and I've found that even used Rotax's go for what is to me "big bucks".

I've searched the forums here quite a bit but w/o really finding much relevant so anything that anyone out there can tell me about two place plans and suitable engines will be very much appreciated. I'm quite a good mechanic with years of experience so engine/reduction gear combos that are only available used are definitely under serious consideration.

Thanks to all!
