Looking at doing a new aircraft design based on the RV-4 configuration with a gross weight of 1250 lbs. Changes include doing a chrome moly fuselage that is as wide as the RV-8 with a tapered profile. Wing would be a foam core Rutan style with a wing area of 100 sq ft with a wing loading of 12.5 gross. No flaps but use same wing airfoil as RV for great performance envelope. Power would be a VW engine at 100 hp for the budget flyer. Performance based on RV would be comparable with a projected stall at 55-57 mph gross and 50 mph solo. Cruise speed estimated at 145 mph with a top speed of 165 mph. Fuselage would be covered with upper and lower composite shells like an extra 300 and it will have a composite foam core tail section that bolts on like an extra 300 tail. 21 ft wing span with a 4.75 ft cord. With an engine change to a 150 or 180 hp conventional engine the performance would be equal to or better than an RV. Full two place canopy also.

We are a manufacturer that builds chrome moly chassis for a living and have been kicking this design around for quite a while and would like to offer a homebuilt kit. With a chrome moly fuselage built with 1", 7/8" and 3/4" tubing comparable to the extra 300 design completely tacked together ready for finish welding and a foam core wing kit and tail kit cut and ready for glass work, we would like to have the base kit sell for under $10,000.00. This would include fuselage , wing and tail foam kit, landing gear with wheels and tires. Options would be flight controls, canopy, cowlings, body cover panels, engine mount etc. We anticipate a build cost of under $20,000 with a VW engine
